In what have been something of a wink and nod to his now fellow Bundesliga alum Mario Basler, German footballing legend Thomas Müller admitted he was tired of all the hype surrounding his farewell. The FC Munich man bade farewell to the Allianz Arena crowd last week. After pre-kickoff ceremonies concluded prior to the match against Borussia Mönchengladbach, Müller reminded the crowd “we actually came here to play!

his last home match concluded, Müller commemorated his final Bundesliga fixture away against TSG 1899 Hoffenheim at the PreZero Arena on Saturday. Speaking to Sky Germany afterwards Müller kept the matter of his future plans close to the vest. He also noted that there would be yet another swan song at the club World Cup in a month’s time. As such, the 35-year-old saw no need to rush his decision.

To be honest, I’ve been getting farewells for six weeks now,” Müller told Sky. “I know exactly what I’m doing today, tomorrow, and the day after tomorrow, but after that it’s still written in the stars. I don’t want to discuss my feelings about the future in a Sky interview.

I’m going to take my time during the break,” Müller continued. “I still want to play football. There’s an internal list and there isn’t one priority in my mind that is most important to me in determining where and how I will continue. The overall package has to be right.
