The Mail report that Sven Botman, Anthony Gordon and Dan Burn were the trip of Newcastle United players sent for the scans.

Sven Botman – Subbed off late in the home 2-0 win over Arsenal with a knee issue and the Dutch defender not travelling to Birmingham at the weekend.

Anthony Gordon – The winger with a quad problem that also saw him miss Birmingham.

Dan Burn – One of only two players to start both the Arsenal and Birmingham matches but forced off in the FA Cup match with a groin problem.

The exclusive from The Mail says that their information is that Anthony Gordon is now fine, his scan flagging up no concerns, with the winger now expected to return to the team against Manchester City on Saturday.

Whilst with Dan Burn and Sven Botman it is also very good news, overall.

The scans on both defenders were positive according to The Mail, however, their information is that both Newcastle United players are still feeling some pain from their injuries/knocks, which means they will be monitored this week and a late decision for both on whether they will be in Saturday’s matchday squad.

Thankfully, having had a very busy period of 14 games in eight weeks, winning 12 of them, we are currently in a two weeks spell with only one match in 14 days, this Man City one on Saturday.

Whilst of course we would all love every player to be available for this Premier League game, if Eddie Howe has any doubts of added injury risk, then Burn and/or Botman will be left out on Saturday.

That would mean a two week minimum break without football for the two defenders, ahead of what then becomes a very busy and key part of the season, five matches in three weeks that will go a long way to deciding Newcastle United’s season in all three competitions.

The final match of that season is the appearance at Wembley, with a two week international break after that, with a potential FA Cup quarter-final to play on the last weekend of March, if United get past Brighton.
