Barcelona have been hit with a major injury setback at the worst time possible, as the club recently confirmed a hamstring injury to left-back Alejandro Balde, and everything points to the fact that he will be out of action for around three weeks.
This comes at a critical period in the season, with important matches lined up, including the second leg of the Champions League quarter-finals against Borussia Dortmund and the Copa del Rey final against Real Madrid.
With the full-back sidelined with injury, Hansi Flick’s attention is certain to turn to Gerard Martin, who is expected to step into a more prominent role.

So far this season, the 23-year-old defender has accumulated over 1,100 minutes across 31 appearances in all competitions, showing consistent growth and proving that he is more than capable of handling top-level competition.
In recent league outings against Real Sociedad and Girona, he not only held his defensive solidarity but also contributed by making forward runs which culminated with a goal and an assist.
Martin is highly tipped to be the natural successor and will take up the spot against Borussia Dortmund and Celta Vigo, and depending on his outcome, he can also book his place for the Copa del Rey final.
Furthermore, it is crucial to note that amidst this, Flick is certain to rotate his team, and that could happen against Mallorca, which falls between two high-intensity fixtures.

Interestingly, one alternative Flick has is Hector Fort, who has previously impressed by playing on both flanks.
Although Flick prefers using him on the right, the La Masia defender may be called upon to step in either as a starter or as a substitute to give his teammate some breathing room.
The last, which is a more defensive option, could be Inigo Martinez.
As a left-footed centre-back, the veteran defender could operate as a makeshift left-back in a three-man defensive system—something Flick might opt for in trickier tactical battles.
Although Balde’s absence is a massive miss, Flick’s management and squad depth give Barcelona hope that they can sail past this storm while staying competitive in all competitions.
