A number of Premier League managers have named Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola as the greatest ever coach to operate in the division’s history – ahead of Sir Alex Ferguson.

The Catalan tactician has been nothing short of a history-defining coach since making the move into English football and taking the job as Manchester City’s head coach in the summer of 2016.

Under Guardiola, Manchester City have undertaken their most successful period in their history, winning a first-ever UEFA Champions League trophy whilst also claiming six Premier League titles in their eight complete seasons under the former Barcelona manager.

But where does that position Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola amongst the greatest managers to have ever competed and worked in the Premier League and English top-flight throughout its history?

That is the question that has been put to fellow Premier League managers this season, with nominees including the likes of Jurgen Klopp, Jose Mourinho, Kenny Dalglish, Arsene Wenger, and particularly Sir Alex Ferguson.

Speaking during a new feature with Sky Sports Premier League, the managers of AFC Bournemouth, West Ham United, and Chelsea all stated that City’s Pep Guardiola is the greatest coach in the history of the English top-flight.

Andoni Iraola said simply, “The best Premier League manager ever is Pep Guardiola,” whilst Julen Lopetegui continued, “Pep has had a big impact in all the leagues that he has worked.”

The West Ham coach continued, “He’s shown that he is one of the best managers in the history of football.”

As for Chelsea’s newly-appointed manager Enzo Maresca, who also spent time working as Pep Guardiola’s assistant coach at Manchester City, the Italian simply answered the question with, “Pep.”

Pep Guardiola is now into his ninth season as Manchester City manager, but also the final year of his existing Etihad Stadium contract, with questions looming over whether the 54-year-old will continue in the role beyond the ongoing campaign.

City themselves are not ruling out an extension, and the belief is that Khaldoon Al Mubarak and his Etihad Stadium colleagues are continuing to work on a proposal that will take Guardiola over the decade mark in charge at Manchester City.
