Paulo Fonseca’s job is no longer at immediate risk following an impressive 2-1 victory over rivals Inter in San Siro on Sunday night.
Here are three reasons why the Milan board have decided to put their faith in the Portuguese tactician.
Fonseca has gained lots of praise from the Italian media for his tactical set-up and player selection for the Derby della Madonnina on Sunday night.
He opted for a 4-4-2, with both Alvaro Morata and Tammy Abraham starting up top, flanked by Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic, with Youssouf Fofana and Tammy Abraham in a double pivot in midfield.
The change in shape came as a bit of a surprise in the build-up, and it certainly gave Inter and SImone Inzaghi a few issues on the pitch. Fonseca has been praised for his bravery in making that call.
Another reason why there is renewed faith in the Rossoneri coach is the togetherness and team spirit that the players showed when they stepped out onto the San Siro pitch.
There had been fractures in the dressing room just a few short weeks ago, with star players Rafael Leao and Theo Hernandez cast under the spotlight for their actions after being dropped for the 2-2 draw against Lazio prior to the recent international break.
Those issues now seem to have been put to bed, and it seems a much calmer environment within the Rossoneri camp.
Thirdly, Milan have confidence that Fonseca and his players will pick up a decent number, if not the maximum number of points from their next three Serie A matches.
Up next are matches against Lecce, Fiorentina and Udinese. After an encouraging win against Inter, there is little point in interrupting the flow by dismissing the coach, even if his results had been unfavourable up until Sunday night.
