MONTERREY, Mexico – Tigres UANL Femenil won 3-1 against LD Alajuelense in Group A of the 2024/25 Concacaf W Champions Cup on Thursday at Estadio Universitario in San Nicolas de los Garza, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
Sheika Scott had the first attacking opportunity for LD Alajuelense by recovering the ball in the box in the 19’, shooting to the top side of the net before goalkeeper Cecilia Santiago denied the attempt.
Sofía Varela scored the opening goal in the 21', the first goal for LD Alajuelense as visitors in the competition.
Ana Dias equalized for Tigres in the 33’ with a diving header to the left bottom corner of the net, connecting on a cross from Anika Rodriguez.
Maricarmen Reyes extended the lead for the hosts in the 61’, sending the ball into the bottom left corner to get the second goal of the night for the Amazonas.
Anika Rodríguez sealed the victory in the 65’, taking advantage of a corner kick to send a right foot rocket to the back of the net for the hosts.
With the victory, Tigres Femenil became the first team to book its place in the semifinals. Tigres also collected a third straight to rise to the top of Group A on nine points. The Mexican club will play its last group stage match at NJ/NY Gotham FC on October 16 at Red Bull Arena in Harrison, New Jersey, USA.
LD Alajuelense will close its W Champions Cup campaign by visiting CF Monterrey Femenil on October 17 at Estadio BBVA in Guadalupe, Nuevo Leon, Mexico. The Costa Rica side will seek to improve on its 1-0-2 record but is unable to advance to the next round.
