The Italian's sweetly-struck effort from the edge of the box gave the Magpies the lead in the last eight clash at St. James' Park, before his perfectly-timed volley from Anthony Gordon's corner gave his side a 2-0 lead in a tie they would go on to win 3-1.
Tonali - who was also shortlisted for the Carabao Cup Player of the Round award - is up against Cameron Archer of Southampton, Eddie Nketiah of Crystal Palace, Dominic Solanke and Son Heung-min of Tottenham Hotspur and Gabriel Jesus of Arsenal.
