There’s no doubt about it, the English Premier League (EPL) is soccer’s most prestigious league, and reaching it is a dream come true for most players. But exactly how many US soccer players have made the jump to the big leagues?
Today, we’re running through five players successfully playing in the EPL, so you’ll know what homegrown talent to place a wager on next time you’re on sports betting sites like Caesars Casino and Sports.
1 – Emerson Schellas Hyndman
Born in Dallas, Emerson Hyndman is an impressive midfielder who now plays for AFC Bournemouth, as well as the United States national team. Hyndman started his career in the US Soccer Development Academy with the Dallas Texans before being selected to play for FC Dallas. Since he made the move to the UK, Hyndman has played for Fulham, Glasgow Rangers and Hibernian. For a while, it looked as though Newcastle United might snap him up, but that never came to be.
2 – Tim Ream
This left-footed central defender, who sometimes also plays left back now plays for Fulham FC, in addition to the United States national team. Such is his dedication to the sport that he even cancelled his honeymoon in 2012 with his high school sweetheart (and now wife) so that he could sign for Bolton Wanderers on a three-year deal, who at the time were in the Premier League. In 2015, Ream was sold to Fulham on a four-year deal.
3 – Geoff Cameron
Geoff Cameron is another United States national team player to achieve great success across the pond. His career began during college, where he played for the West Virginia Mountaineers, the Rhode Island Rams, and USL Premier Development League side, the Rhode Island Stingrays before he was drafted to Major League soccer team, Houston Dynamo in 2008. In 2012 he joined EPL team, Stoke City. Cameron is now on loan to Championship team, Queens Park Rangers for the 2018-2019 season.
4 – Luca de la Torre
At just 20 years old, it looks like Luca de la Torre has a bright future ahead of him in the UK. Hailing from San Diego, this right midfielder has been playing for Fulham FC since 2013 and is contracted there until 2020. He scored his first goal for the club against Millwall in September 2018.
5 – DeAndre Yedlin
DeAndre Yedlin is a talented 25-year old, who plays right back for Newcastle United, where he is contracted until 2021. Yedlin played youth soccer for a number of teams before moving to his local club, Seattle Sounders FC for the 2010-2011 season. In 2014, he signed a four-year contract with Tottenham Hotspur, before being loaned to Sunderland FC. In 2016, he moved to Newcastle United on a five-year contract for a cool £5 million. His current market value is now £7.20 million.
