Brazil’s heartbreaking World Cup knockout came at the hands of Croatia on penalties, as the Selecao’s wait to win the tournament now goes beyond 20 years.
Brazil’s performance, on the day, was pretty decent and Croatia were constantly saved by Dominik Livakovic, whose heroics during the penalties saw the European side through. With the dust now settling, we look back on Brazil’s three best players during the World Cup.
Richarlison
The Tottenham man had lightened up Brazil’s tournament, thanks to his performance against Serbia and his showing against South Korea in the Round of 16. He acted as the perfect striker for his teammates, as he became someone they could play off, he could turn and set others up and could also take defenders on and score. If anything, his performances for Brazil could prove to be a huge positive for Antonio Conte’s Spurs.
Vinicius Jr
Just like he did in the Champions League last season, Vinicius lit up the World Cup as well for Brazil. While he was poor against Croatia up against Josip Juranovic, the Real Madrid man had defenders on the strings in the other four games. He was excellent in dragging them wide, going past them and running in-behind. His partnership with Richarlison was one worth remembering.
Casemiro
While Thiago Silva was definitely one of the best players in the side, Casemiro’s goal against Switzerland brings him up to the top three players for Brazil in the tournament. He showed that he isn’t just great off the ball, he proved that he has improved a lot technically under Erik ten Hag and the Manchester United man was vital in playing through the press and turning past players when the opposition was pressing high up the pitch.
