According to Homme du Match, Tottenham have entered the race for Igor Gomes. The Sao Paulo attacker has emerged as the latest target for the Lilywhites, who are prepared to rival West Ham in the pursuit of the 22-year-old. Sao Paulo currently value Gomes at around €10 million, with the player being regarded as the “new Kaka” in his native Brazil.
A product of the Sao Paulo youth academy, Igor Gomes has enjoyed a rapid rise to prominence since his promotion to the senior side in 2019. In just two years, the player has established himself as an attacking lynchpin, featuring in well over 100 competitive outings.
An attacking midfielder by trade, Gomes has been an ever-present figure for the club over the past couple of seasons. Last season, he made 37 appearances, scoring three goals while chipping in with two assists.
His tally of eight goals and nine assists in 116 competitive matches might not seem eye-catching for a playmaker. But the 22-year-old possesses excellent technical quality and positional sense that makes him a threat in the final third.
Moreover, the Brazilian is quite versatile as he can operate in a withdrawn midfield role and even as a right-sided midfielder, in addition to his preferred number ten position. And with a significant amount of experience under his belt, Igor is certainly prepared to take the next step in his career.

Tottenham Hotspur‘s interest in Igor Gomes is quite bizarre given they already have a wealth of options in the attacking midfield position. The likes of Giovani Lo Celso, Dele Alli and Tanguy Ndombele are vying for the number ten slot this season.
As such, further investment for an attacking midfielder appears to be quite impractical. While there is no doubt about the potential of someone like Gomes, it is hard to imagine any prospect for him at Tottenham.
The Brazilian will largely be contesting against talented stars like Lo Celso and Ndombele with no real hopes of becoming a regular starter in near future. Moreover, his lack of productivity in the Brazilian top-flight should be a cause for concern for the club.
Although Nuno Espirito Santo is quite capable of unearthing Portuguese or Brazilian talents, Igor Gomes might not be an ideal fit for the club despite the fact that he is available for just €10 million.
Instead, Tottenham should enter the market for a new central midfielder who can play alongside Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg in the double-pivot next season. It could be essential in solving one of the team’s glaring problems heading into this new season.
