Tottenham Hotspur have been handed a massive boost in their bid to sign Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Spurs were set to rival Manchester City for the England international, but The Athletic claims the Premier League champions are unlikely to submit a bid.

The news will come as a welcome relief for Spurs, who have long admired Eze. After an exceptional campaign, he is increasingly likely to leave Selhurst Park this summer.

Palace have already lost Michael Olise to Bundesliga heavyweights Bayern Munich and are desperate to keep Eze for at least one more season.

Eze’s £60m release clause could be a bargain for Spurs

Man City strongly considered signing Eze last summer, but a transfer never materialised. Palace have since tried to tie him to a new deal but to no avail.

Eze will likely leave the club this summer. However, his future will be decided after the ongoing European Championship in Germany, where he has made three appearances for the Three Lions.

However, that hasn’t stopped Spurs from ramping up their interest in the midfielder.

Ange Postecoglou’s squad desperately need another playmaker to complement James Maddison, and Eze would be a phenomenal addition.

While Champions League football is off the table, Tottenham will still back themselves to land Eze, who would be key to helping the club bridge the gap with the Premier League’s elite.

He was in exceptional form for Palace last term, notching 11 goals and four assists in 27 Premier League games.

With Man City out of the picture, Tottenham must prioritise signing Eze.

His £60 million release clause may seem steep, but he could easily be the point of difference Spurs need to achieve their lofty ambitions.
