Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to sign Ivan Toney for a fee of £40m due to the forward’s contract situation at Brentford.

Toney has been made Tottenham’s top target for the summer transfer window as Ange Postecoglou looks to sign a centre-forward. The 28-year-old has entered the final 12 months of his deal with Brentford and the Bees will reluctantly sanction his sale this summer.

Brentford value Toney at around £65m but Spurs are hopeful the player’s contract situation can lead to a significant reduction on that fee as the transfer window progresses. Chelsea and Arsenal have also been linked with Toney but it is Spurs who are the frontrunners as their London rivals consider alternative targets.

Toney is currently with the England squad at Euro 2024 as the Three Lions prepare to face Spain in the tournament’s final this weekend.

He has made two substitute appearances at Euro 2024, assisting Harry Kane in the Round of 16 win over Slovakia and scoring from the spot in the quarter-final shootout against Switzerland.

Spurs have identified Toney as their primary focus for the transfer window, according to GiveMeSport.

The forward, who has 36 goals and 11 assists in 83 appearances since Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League, has expressed a desire for an exit as he looks to compete in European competition.
