Archie Gray, Ben Davies, Antonin Kinsky and Heung min-Son all impressive in big away win
Tottenham earned a first victory in the Premier League since December 15, as Vitaly Janelt’s own goal and substitute Pape Matar Sarr’s late second earned them a scrappy 2-0 win over Brentford in west London.
Janelt turned Heung-min Son’s corner over his own line midway through a cagey first half in which the Bees had the better of the chances.
Spurs had to weather a storm for most of the second period but Sarr raced onto Son’s pass and poked between goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson’s legs to settle the game.
Here’s how we rated the Spurs players…
Antonin Kinsky 8
Parried a Christian Norgaard effort and did well to claw a cross away from Yoane Wissa in another composed display.
Pedro Porro 7
Played his part in an impressive rearguard performance, standing up well to Brentford’s wide threat well.
Archie Gray 8
Continues to impress out-of-position at centre-half. Positionally sound and composed on the ball.
Ben Davies 8
Extremely impressive in the air, repelling a number of Brentford crosses.
Did superbly against Bryan Mbuemo, particularly when the winger managed to isolate him 1v1. Cleared a late effort off the line in an excellent performance out of position.
Yves Bissouma 7
Put himself about at the base of midfield in a solid display out of possession.
Rodrigo Bentancur 7
Brought a composure on the ball to Spurs’ midfield.
Dejan Kulusevski 7
Influential as a No8 in the first half before switching to the right wing after the break. Fired a shot into the side netting but Spurs missed his presence in the middle.
Mikey Moore 5
Struggled to impose himself on a physical Brentford side and was hooked at the interval.
Heung-min Son 8
Made both goals, the opener with a vicious corner – was he going for another Olympico? – for the first and a fine ball for Sarr.
Richarlison 6
Industrious and committed but did not have a real sight at goal and was bullied by Brentford’s physical defenders. It often felt like Spurs were lacking a true No9 to feed off low crosses into the box
Subs
Lucas Bergvall (Moore 45’) 7
Worked his socks off, as usual, and rolled a low effort just wide of the post.
Pape Matar Sarr (Bissouma 68’) 7
Took his goal well to settle a cagey game and seal a huge win for Spurs.
Dane Scarlett (Richarison 78’) 6
Worked hard in another encouraging short cameo.
Not used: Austin, Reguilon, Cassanova, Ajayi, Olusesi, Hardy.
