Currently sitting sixth in the Premier League with 19 points, Spurs have found some breathing room after a turbulent start to the season.

However, the road hasn’t been smooth for Postecoglou, who has faced persistent criticism due to losses against teams like Galatasaray, Ipswich Town, and Crystal Palace.

While this recent win serves as a reminder of the squad's capabilities, it also highlights the inconsistency that has plagued their performances.

Spurs fans will hope this result signals a turning point, but the coach’s post-match comments indicate underlying frustrations.

Despite the commanding result, Postecoglou took issue with referee John Brooks’ decisions during the match.

Within the opening 15 seconds, Brooks issued a yellow card to Yves Bissouma, a decision that sparked frustration from the Spurs boss, who felt there was an imbalance in officiating.

Postecoglou’s visible irritation on the touchline was noted by many, including former Spurs goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Speaking to Tottenham News, Robinson praised Bissouma’s composure under pressure, highlighting the midfielder’s disciplined performance despite the early booking.

“If he’d have gotten sent off, it would have been a problem. But if a player likes a tackle like that, he’s got to be careful for the rest of the game. It’s a credit to him how he played while on that yellow card," Robinson said.

However, he criticised Brooks for inconsistent refereeing, pointing out that Manchester City players committed similar challenges without facing punishment.

Robinson's remarks reflected a sentiment shared by many Spurs supporters: while the team executed their game plan effectively, the refereeing left much to be desired.

Spurs’ path forward

For Manchester City, the loss represents their fifth consecutive defeat across all competitions—a highly unusual dip in form for Pep Guardiola’s side.

Tottenham’s dominant display capitalised on City’s struggles, raising questions about how the Premier League champions will recover.

Although Tottenham delivered a performance to remember, Postecoglou knows consistency is key if the club hopes to climb higher in the table.

The victory over City is a step in the right direction, but the coach’s concerns underscore the challenges that lie ahead.

Spurs fans will hope this match marks the beginning of a stronger, more reliable run of form, but for now, Postecoglou’s demand for fairness and consistency—both from his players and from officials—remains a top priority.
