A transfer saga involving the Reds defender is developing

Real Madrid are reportedly willing to test Liverpool's resolve over Trent Alexander-Arnold.

The right-back, who is out of contract at the end of the season, is now free to speak to clubs outside of England as the transfer window opened on New Year's Day.

Should the England international opt to move on, it seems the Santiago Bernabeu is the most likely destination as links to Real Madrid refuse to go away.

In fact, reports claim the reigning La Liga champions have already made their first move for Alexander-Arnold with the intention to bring him to Spain this month.

Though, Liverpool are said to have rejected a first bid from Real for the 26-year-old as a report in the Guardian stated the approach was turned down “before any financial package for buying out the remainder of his contract could be offered".

However, whilst the Premier League leaders have made clear that they do not want to let the right back leave this month, the Times have reported that Los Blancos are weighing up whether to test their resolve.

The report states the Spanish outfit are willing to pay up to £20.7m (€25m) to sign Alexander-Arnold in the January transfer window.

In response to speculation surrounding Alexander-Arnold’s future, Reds boss Arne Slot said after the 5-0 win over West Ham: “No, I don't think it's negative at all. He's playing really well. He scored a great goal and the way he celebrated his goal probably tells you enough.

“So I don't think I have to say much more about it. I'm really happy with Trent, just as happy as I am with Mo and with Virgil.

“So for me there's no difference. For the outside world maybe there's a bit more things happening around Trent in the media than with the other two, but I'm happy with all three at the moment.”
