Troy Deeney has picked his best performers from the weekend’s action.

The Premier League team of the week (and manager) that have most impressed him.

Included in his choices is one from Newcastle United.

This NUFC individual just one of many who contributed to an excellent team performance that deserved the victory against Arsenal.

Troy Deeney explains why he has picked out Anthony Gordon for his Premier League team of the week and then the full eleven (twelve) are listed below:

“Newcastle are a better team when he is involved.

“He got an assist for Alexander Isak’s winner against Arsenal, but the way he drives with the ball and carries the team forward means he’s always a threat.

“He can be on the right, left or the middle – he’s just a wonderful football player for Newcastle and England.

“Getting injured and then missing a penalty against Everton could have knocked his confidence but didn’t.

“He’s straight back on the horse, straight at it – I can respect that.”

I thought Anthony Gordon was very good on Saturday and of course his assist was sublime.

However, I must admit that even better, were the likes of Lewis Hall, Tino Livramento and Joelinton.

Troy Deeney Premier League team of the week:

Aaron Ramsdale (Southampton)

Adam Smith (Bournemouth)

Radu Dragusin (Tottenham)

Taylor Harwood-Bellis (Southampton)

Ola Aina (Nottingham Forest)

Moises Caicedo (Chelsea)

Joao Gomes (Wolves)

Lewis Cook (Bournemouth)

Anthony Gordon (Newcastle)

Dominic Solanke (Tottenham)

Antoine Semenyo (Bournemouth)

Manager of the week:

Andoni Iraola (Bournemouth):

“Tactically he was excellent. His team were so brave in the way they pressed Manchester City, they left one v one at the back with Erling Haaland – nobody has done that this season. They could have been 4-0 up in the first half.”

Troy Deeney gets this one badly wrong.

Not the selection of Andoni Iraola, I can totally see why he has chosen him after that win over Man Coty.

It is when Troy Deeney claims that Bournemouth are the first team to leave a defender one on one with Erling Haaland.

When Newcastle got a deserved point against Man City, that was also largely due to a very brave Eddie Howe set-up. Which included Dan Burn throughout the game left one on one with Erling Haaland, a key duel where BDB came out well on top.
