Ah, pre-season. When trophies are handed out, but the football is meaningless. When everyone gets way over-excited about a new signing scoring a hat-trick against some non-league outfit. Or have a meltdown about losing to some second-rate Indonesian side.
It’s the bit you have to go through before getting to the real thing, a bit like mock exams. They’re a necessary evil to prepare for the real challenge ahead, but feel so unnecessary and pointless at the same time.
In the meantime, we still have Arsenal and Manchester United fans on Twitter to keep us entertained as they glumly look ahead to the new campaign.
