Potential ins, outs and new contracts could have the Robins' fans in dreamland, following a fairly low-key start to the summer window.

Bristol City will be hoping to shake off their status as a mid-table Championship side and compete at the top end of the division during the upcoming campaign.

That won't be an easy task, with talented sides coming down from the Premier League, but the Robins have a good chance to progress under talented coach Liam Manning.

The 38-year-old has guided the likes of MK Dons and Oxford United into the promotion mix before - and that winning mentality could help the young manager to succeed at Ashton Gate.

However, he can't do it all on his own. He will need sufficient backing in the transfer market to create a team that's capable of securing a place in the Premier League.

Thankfully for the Robins, there are still a few weeks to go for the club to make further additions, and these signings could make all the difference at the end of the 2023/24 season.

Below, we take a look at three City scenarios that would leave the Bs3 faithful in dreamland...

Scott Twine re-signs for Bristol City

Scott Twine remains at Burnley at this stage, which isn't ideal for Manning, but reports suggest that the playmaker remains a target for the Robins.

Even if the player only joins on loan, he could make a real impact during the 2024/25 campaign, with the attacking midfielder proving his worth in the EFL before.

Not only has he shone in the EFL but he has also done extremely well under Manning before at MK and his attacking threat could make a major difference, with Tommy Conway potentially heading out the exit door.

The likes of Fally Mayulu and Sinclair Armstrong may have joined, but the pair may need time to settle in before they thrive at Ashton Gate, and Twine, who spent the second half of last term with the Robins, could make an instant impact.

With the player's contract expiring in 2026, the Clarets will probably be keen to sell him now if they want to offload the player, and a loan-to-buy agreement could work out well for the Robins if they can negotiate it.

Manning's connection to Twine and the fact they are competing in a higher division could allow them to beat Birmingham City in this race.

Tommy Conway is sold

Striker Conway is a very talented player and many of the Robins' fans won't want to see him leave.

But with the player telling Manning that he wants to leave this summer, the best outcome for all parties would be an exit – with the academy product out of contract next summer and refusing to sign a new deal.

Middlesbrough have been linked with the player, but the Robins may not want to sell him to a league rival, so a move to Scottish Premiership rivals Rangers would probably be ideal and generate a better fee.

If/when his exit from Ashton Gate is confirmed, recruiting a replacement could be a good idea, even with the striker department already being addressed this summer.

Ayman Benarous shines and signs new deal

Ayman Benarous has spent a very long time out injured, with ACL and hamstring injuries preventing him from winning minutes on the pitch.

However, the player has been back in action this pre-season and it wouldn't be a surprise to see him heavily involved during the upcoming season.

The 21-year-old is clearly a midfielder who has plenty of potential, and if he enjoys a good start to the campaign, the Robins should be looking to offer him a new deal.

His current terms expire in 2025 and the club won't want to lose him for free, so offering him a one-year extension could work out for the player and give the club a little bit more security.
