When Radhi Jaïdi left his post running the Southampton U-23s to join the USL Championship’s Hartford Athletic, it was expected that one or two Saints youngsters would make the move to Connecticut.
On Monday, that became a reality as 20-year-old Tyreke Johnson agreed to link up with his former boss on loan with the United States second-division side.
Johnson, who has made three first-team appearances with Southampton, is under contract until June 2021 and will spend all of 2020 with Hartford.
Last year, Hartford Athletic completed their first professional season, posting a record of 8W-21L-5D under longtime Aalborg and Sporting Kansas City goalkeeper Jimmy Nielsen, finishing 17th out of 18 teams in the Eastern Conference.
