It’s the semi-finals of the Under-21 European Championships and what a magnificent air of matches we have in store.
Here’s what went down.
Scorers: Schuurs 67′; Wirtz 1′, 8;
Germany got off to a remarkable start as Florian Wirtz raced on to a Lukas Nmecha pass and scored after just one minute, finding the net without the Dutch even touching the ball.
And their perfect start got even better just a few moments later as Wirtz once again finished well to double the Germans lead.
Mergim Berisha also went close with a free kick but Germany had to be content with going into the break with a two-goal lead.
After the interval the Netherlands got themselves back into the match as Perr Schuurs netted one against the run of play but it wasn’t enough as Germany booked their place in Sunday’s final to face Portugal.
Scorers: Jorge Cuenca (OG) 80′
Spain should taken the lead on 12 minutes as Bryan Gil’s cross found Brahim Diaz unmarked around the penalty spot but he headed over.
La Roja continued to dominate possession but their monopoly on the ball failed to result in any more clear-cut chances in the first half.
Into the second period and Marc Cucurella almost opened the scoring for Spain only to see his rasping effort crash back off the post.
But with just 10 minutes to go, and totally against the run of play, Portugal took the lead as Fabio Vieira’s effort looped off the back of Jorge Cuenca and into the back of the net.
Portugal held on for a famous win as Spain lost their first match at under 21 level for two years.
