Less than a week after Roma’s loss in Bilbao, Athletic-Roma is back in the spotlight.

UEFA has announced the opening of an investigation into the clashes that took place outside the San Mamés stadium and the occupation of escape routes in the sectors occupied by Roma fans during the match on March 13.

The statement, reported by the Basque club, highlights incidents of rockets and objects being thrown outside the sports facility, as well as the clutter of the stairs inside the area reserved for Giallorossi fans.

“UEFA has announced the opening of disciplinary proceedings for the incidents that occurred outside the San Mamés and for the occupation of the escape routes by AS Roma fans on Thursday 13 March.

The UEFA press release refers to the throwing of flares and objects onto the San Mamés esplanade. It also states that inside the stadium and in the AS Roma fans’ area, the stairs in their sectors were occupied.”
