Portugal v North Macedonia

Scorers: Bruno Fernandes 32′, 65′

A Bruno Fernandes double was enough to send Portugal to the World Cup as they beat North Macedonia 2-0.

North Macedonia were looking to shock the football world again on Tuesday as they went to Portugal just five days after their 1-0 win over Italy in the semi-finals.

But it was Cristiano Ronaldo who had the best chance early on as he fired a left-footed shot just wide of the post.

The home side did eventually make their quality pay on 32 minutes as Bruno Fernandes linked well with Ronaldo and opened the scoring.

Into the second half and Bruno Fernandes got his second of the night as he got on the end of a Diogo Jota cross and volleyed home from close range.

Poland v Sweden

Scorers: Lewandowski (PEN) 49′, Zielinski 74′

Second half goals from Robert Lewandowski and Piotr Zielinski helped Poland beat Sweden 2-0 and qualify for this winter’s World Cup.

It was pelting down with rain in ChorzĂłw as Poland, after getting a bye to this round, were hoping to use home advantage to help them claim a World Cup place.

Robert Lewandowski went close early on as he latched on to a Matty Cash cross but headed just wide of the post.

Into the second half and Poland were quickly given a penalty as Gregorz Krychowiak was fouled inside the area which Lewandowski dispatched.

And the hosts doubled their advantage on 73 minutes as Piotr Zielinski capitalised on a defensive error and finished brilliantly.

Wales v Scotland or Ukraine will take place during the next international break in June.
