Aston Villa duo Jacob Ramsey and Morgan Rogers both hailed the club's recruitment in the January transfer window as "unbelievable" after helping to fire their side into the fifth round of the FA Cup for the first time since 2015.

Both were on the scoresheet as Villa downed Tottenham Hotspur 2-1 at Villa Park in front of a raucous home crowd.

Ramsey opened the scoring in the second minute of the game, though his effort should arguably have been saved by Tottenham goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, before player of the match Rogers put the tie to bed after half-time, rendering Mathys Tel's first Tottenham goal irrelevant.

It was another impressive outing for a Villa side who always looked dangerous when going forward. Ramsey started on the left flank of an attacking quartet containing Rogers, Leon Bailey and Donyell Malen, with manager Unai Emery able to call on January signings Marcus Rashford and Marco Asensio in the later stages.

Rashford had been at Manchester United for his entire career prior to his January arrival while Asensio has won three Champions League titles with Real Madrid - evidence of the calibre of player Villa are now able to attract.

"I think it's probably one of the best squads we have had," Ramsey told BBC One after the game. "We have got experience with [Marcus] Rashford and [Marco] Asensio coming on and Donyell Malen starting. The squad depth is unbelievable. The starting players have got to raise their game now because the players coming on are a big threat."

"It pushes us along, we want to take what we can from the experienced players in the squad," Rogers said of the increased competition from players who have starred at the highest level. "It's massive to have people like that in the building and hopefully we can just push each other.

On killing the tie off with his goal, Rogers added: "The second goal was important, we played well but we hadn't killed the game off. We probably could have scored a few more but overall we are happy with the performance and the win.

"I'm trying to improve, trying to get better, but the team are trying to create something and we'll see where it takes us."

Both players are likely to be in the thoughts of England manager Thomas Tuchel, with the first international break under the German's watch fast approaching. Rashford will also hope to shine enough at Villa to perhaps get back on the radar – the 27-year-old was left out of England's squad for Euro 2024 by then-boss Gareth Southgate.
