After riding the highs of a big 2-1 away victory over Borussia Dortmund, VfB Stuttgart will be sweating over the wellbeing of marquee talent Deniz Undav.

Germany’s popular sports magazine, Kicker, reported that both the 28-year-old striker and Danish midfielder Nikolas Nartey have been struck down with an infection.

However, hope remains that the German international may recover in time for next Saturday afternoon’s match at the MHP-Arena against VfL Wolfsburg.

Sebastian Hoeness has been tasked with tricky squad management in recent weeks. The 42-year-old head coach had to make do without Nick Woltemade and Josha Vagnoman as Die Schwaben defeated DfB Pokal opponents Augsburg 1-0 in the quarter-finals last week.

The duo recovered in time to play substitute roles in last Saturday’s win against BVB and it is hoped Undav can bounce back in similar fashion before Matchday 22.

VfB’s injury list is quite extensive at the moment – Jakob Bruun Larsen (ill) was absent last weekend and is yet to participate in this week’s training. Meanwhile, Ameen Al-Dakhil (thigh muscle strain) joins Dan-Axel Zagadou, El Bilal Toure and Luca Raimund on the sidelines.
