A22 Sports management have officially submitted proposals to UEFA and FIFA for a new, multi-tiered European Club competition called the Unify League, three years on from the failed European Super League project.
Here is everything you need to know about the Unify League and its proposed format.
The proposed format for the new Unify League includes a three-tiered system that includes four divisions in the men’s categories.
The Union league sits at the bottom of the pyramid. The Blue League is the secondary level of the competition, and the top tier is to be split into two leagues called the Gold and Star Leagues.
The Union and Blue leagues will have 32 teams each, and the 32 teams in the top division will be divided into two lots of 16 for the Gold and Star leagues.

Star League: 12 teams will qualify directly for the Star League. They will be joined by the two most recent winners of the Gold and Star leagues. Two more teams will qualify for the Star league through the play-off system.
Gold League: Eight teams will qualify directly for the Gold League. Seven more teams will join them through a play-off system. They will also be joined by the most recent winner of the Blue League to make up the 16 teams.
Blue League: 14 teams will qualify automatically for the Blue League. Another 17 teams will be decided upon through the play-off route. They will also be joined by the most recent winner of the Union league.
Union League: Over 100 teams from 55 different European Nations will compete in a play-off based system, which will eventually be whittled down to 32.
The proposal would see the 32 teams in each division split into four groups of eight. Those eight teams will all face each other in a round-robin style format that runs from September through to April.
The top two teams from each of those eight-team leagues will qualify for the knockout rounds.
A reminder: The Star and Gold League are part of the same division, but have been split into two leagues to ‘ensure exciting matches throughout the season’.
The knockout rounds work fairly similarly to most other UEFA and FIFA competitions currently in existence. The main difference is that the knockout rounds will begin from the quarter-finals, rather than a round of 16.
The knock-out round is set to run from April until May.
