Union Berlin have reached a verbal agreement with Wehen Wiesbaden’s Benedict Hollerbach, according to Florian Plettenberg.
Union have been chasing Hollerbach for some time but faced competition from FC Köln. However, the Irons were always leading the race and now look set to sign the 22-year-old.
Having reached a verbal agreement with the player, Union must now meet the demands of newly-promoted 2. Bundesliga side Wiesbaden. The club are demanding €1.5m winger/forward.
Hollerbach will face plenty of competition should he sign for Union. With the likes of Sheraldo Becker, Kevin Behrens, Jordan, Jamie Leweling and Mikkael Kaufmann, the youngster will have to up his game. However, some of these players may not be at Union come the start of the season. Leweling could leave on loan whilst Becker is eyeing up a move to the Premier League.
Hollerbach played 41 times for Wiesbaden last season scoring 19 goals as they earned promotion to the 2. Bundesliga at the expense of Arminia Bielefeld.
Remarkably, Hollerbach could go from playing in the third division to the Champions League in the space of one season.
