In a recent report, The Athletic (subscription required) provided an update on the future of Aston Villa defender Calum Chambers. It is understood that the Villans are looking to sell the English full-back in this winter transfer window.
Chambers has found game time hard to come by at the West Midlands club during this campaign. The 28-year-old has only made three appearances for Aston Villa this season across all fronts. Chambers has often himself behind Matty Cash in Unai Emery’s pecking order.
The English sensation has served as a useful presence in Aston Villa’s match-day squad over the past couple of years. However, he needs a change of scenery this winter in search of more first-team chances.
Chambers is under contract at Villa Park until the summer of 2025. Therefore, Unai Emery has no immediate need to cash in on him in this ongoing transfer window.

Chambers is a good tackler of the ball and can scan the danger well to earn possession back for his team inside his half. He usually puts his foot through the ball when in danger of being caught out at the back. The English talent is a decent dribbler with the ball as well and can play his way out from the back. However, he has sometimes lacked consistency with his performances on the right flank.
Chambers is primarily a right-back but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder or as a central defender if asked to do so by his manager. His experience and versatility make him a solid option to serve as a role player in most top clubs across England.
However, Chambers has been left frustrated due to the lack of first-team chances at Aston Villa this season. Thus, it is only fair to him if Unai Emery cashes in on the player this January and uses the money generated from his potential sale to bring in a suitable replacement before the end of this transfer window.
At 28, Chambers is playing in his prime and could welcome an opportunity to seal a move away from Villa Park.
