U.S. men advance to quarterfinals at Paris 2024 | OneFootball

PARIS – Men’s soccer concluded at the 2024 Summer Olympics on Tuesday, with two Concacaf nations participating in the final matchday of the group stage.

The United States men’s national team sealed its qualification to the knockout round to set up a meeting with Morocco on Friday in the quarterfinals. The Dominican Republic bowed out of the tournament with a draw against Uzbekistan.

Dominican Republic closes historic campaign

The Dominican Republic men’s national team drew 1-1 with Uzbekistan at the Parc des Princes in Paris.

Nowend Lorenzo 22’ had an attempt inside the box but the ball was wide.

The result marks the end of the Dominican Republic’s debut campaign at the Summer Olympics. The team leaves with two points after drawing its opening and closing encounters.

The U.S. reach first knockout stage since Sydney 2000

The United States men’s national team earned a 3-nil victory against Guinea at the Geoffroy-Guichard Stadium in St-Etienne, France.

The U.S. sealed a spot in the quarterfinals with the victory. The trip to the knockout stage marks the first for Team USA in men’s soccer since the Sydney 2000 Olympics, when the team reached the semifinals.

Team USA will retake the field on Friday against Morocco, the winner of Group A, at the Parc des Princes, Paris. A victory would send the U.S. to the semifinals, assuring the team a chance to play for a medal at Paris 2024.

Women’s group stage concludes on Wednesday

The Canada and United States women’s national teams will play on Wednesday in the final matchday of the group stage.

The U.S. has assured its participation in the knockout stage but will seek to finish in first place of Group B when it plays Australia at the Marseille Stadium in Marseille, France.

The four-time gold medal winners are coming off a 4-1 victory against Germany on Sunday. Sophia Smith scored twice to help the nation to its second consecutive victory. Mallory Swanson also scored to increase her tally to three goals, leading the team, and Lynn Williams opened her account at the 2024 summer games.

The defending gold medalists, Canada, are coming off a 2-1 win over hosts France. The Canadians will conclude the group stage against Colombia at the Nice Stadium in Nice, France.

Canada needs a victory to advance to the knockout stage. A draw or loss would see them exit the tournament.

Cloé Lacasse and Evelyne Viens scored in Canada’s opening victory. Jessie Fleming and Vanessa Gilles scored in the second match, including Gilles’ match-winner 12 minutes into stoppage time.
