USA surge and France fall in Women’s World Ranking

Victory in the Paris Olympics Gold Medal Match has helped the USA leap from fifth place to the top of the FIFA/CocaCola Women’s World Ranking.

Beaten semi-finalists at the Olympics, Spain drop two places to third as England climb to second position and France fell eight places to tenth.

Germany remain fourth, Sweden are up one to fifth and Canada rising two to sixth, while Japan stay seventh and both silver-medalists Brazil and North Korea move up to eight and ninth respectively.

Scotland still occupy 23rd but have Republic of Ireland now on their heels, while Wales moved up two to 29th and Northern Ireland rose three to 45th.

Six teams boast their best-ever rankings; Iceland (13th), Colombia (21st), Zambia (62nd), Solomon Islands (86th), Cabo Verde (130th) and Central African Republic (144th).

Meanwhile, there is a debut for Liechtenstein, who sit 187th in a new record of 194 teams.
