With less than a week to go until the transfer window re-opens for the winter, fans have begun speculating over the deals Manchester United could facilitate.

As has been the case in recent years, it’s highly unlikely the board will be sanctioning any permanent incomings due to the lack of funds available – especially because this time around, they took a substantial hit early in the term when choosing to part ways with Erik ten Hag. He had only just extended his stay until 2026 and was therefore owed a severance package believed to be in the region of £16 million.

Nonetheless, it’s Ruben Amorim at the reins now, and he is still getting to grips with the best starting XI at his disposal.

We can interpret where his opinion lies on some players given how little they’ve featured in the first nine matches of his tenure, however. Take Antony, for example, who is yet to start a Premier League game under Amorim and has only featured for a total of 167 minutes in all competitions.

The out-of-favour Brazilian has long faced an uncertain future at Old Trafford, even more so when it became evident that Ten Hag, having pushed to sign him from Ajax in 2022, had given up hope by refusing to start him in league outings.

His frequent omissions have prompted speculation that the 24-year-old could be on his way out of M16 in the coming weeks – and he isn’t short of suitors. Antony’s agent, Junior Pedroso, spoke with Fabrizio Romano (via GiveMeSport) to try and provide some clarity over his player’s situation.

“Many clubs have approached us for Antony’s move in January,” he confirmed. “These clubs wanted to understand the situation for Antony, so I can confirm that there’s concrete interest.”

“To be fair, Manchester United have never expressed any interest to sell or loan out Antony to us. We never received this sort of communication so far. Man United management never told us that they want Antony to leave, despite the reports we see around about our client.”

That’s not to say the door isn’t open to the winger sealing a mid-season move elsewhere, though, as Pedroso added: “I can say that Antony’s future is very much tied to Manchester United’s interests.

“If the club thinks it would be a good idea to loan Antony out in January so he can get more minutes and regain his trust, we will work together on that option. Otherwise, Antony is working hard to regain his place and show his best skills under the new coach Ruben Amorim.”
