Uefa Women’s Champions League action continued on Friday with Chelsea in action before PSG clash with Real Madrid.

This is how the games went down.

PSG beat Real Madrid to knock the Spanish side out

Scorers: De Almeida 15′, Diani 60′; Zornoza 81′

Real Madrid were eliminated from the Champions League at the group stage following their defeat to PSG at the Parc des Princes.

An end-to-end encounter from the off saw both teams hit the woodwork within five minutes. Sandy Baltimore cut inside from the right flank and watched as her left-footed effort landed on the top of the crossbar.

In what was essentially the next attack, Real Madrid got a corner which the hosts cleared only as far as Freja Olofsson, but the 24-year-old’s swerving effort came back off the inside of the upright.

PSG found the breakthrough within a quarter of an hour from a corner kick. Élisa De Almeida ghosted in at the near post and executed a wonderful flicked header into the far side of the goal to make it 1-0.

The woodwork would deny Real Madrid once again as, after squandering a couple of opportunities to shoot, the ball ended up at the feet of Athenea del Castillo, but her effort could only clip the top of the bar.

Baltimore would then hit the bar again with a speculative effort from range that was close to catching out Misa Rodríguez before they doubled their lead from the penalty spot.

Olga Carmona was judged to have brought down Ashley Lawrence, as Kadidiatou Diani made no mistake from 12 yards out.

Real Madrid, through Claudio Zornoza, pulled one back with ten minutes remaining but, despite pushing for a leveller, weren’t able to do enough as PSG won 2-1.

Chelsea secure knock-out spot beating Vllanzia

Chelsea confirmed their spot in the Champions League quarter-finals with a comprehensive victory over Vllaznia.

Taking advantage of a loose ball in the penalty area, the visitors took an early lead in Albania. Guro Reiten’s low cross was only partially cleared as, totally unmarked on the edge of the season, Sophie Ingle remained composed to find the bottom corner.

Chelsea doubled their lead 10 minutes later through a moment of sheer inspiration.

Jessie Fleming was brought down just outside of the penalty area, and before Vllaznia’s defence could reset, Jelena Čanković took the subsequent free-kick quickly as Fran Kirby finished with aplomb from close range.

The game was put to bed with five minutes left on the clock through Kateřina Svitková. As the hosts struggled to clear the ball following a corner, the second-half substitute rose highest to meet Čanković’s cross to make it three.

Further gloss was added to the result as Chelsea were awarded a penalty in the game’s dying moments for a handball.  Maren Mjelde stepped up and sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to seal the result.

Roma qualify for knock-outs in their first UWCL season

Roma secured their spot in the knock-out rounds in their first European campaign emphatically as St. Pölen imploded in the game’s final stages.

After the game had been delayed for over an hour due to flooding on the field caused by torrential rain, Roma went into the break with a slender lead.

Annamaria Serturini scored her first Champions League goal with a cool finish having been found by a defence-splitting pass from Manuela Giugliano.

St. Pölen looked more dangerous in the second half and pushed for an equaliser that wasn’t to come before the Italian outfit put them to the sword in devastating fashion in the final 10 minutes.

Benedetta Glionna reacted quickest to knock the ball over the line to make to two after some great work by Valentina Giacinti, after which Manuela Giugliano scored a quick-fire double as she doubled her side’s lead.

Glionna added a fifth as she completed her brace moments later, expertly finishing from close range, as Roma won 5-0.
