Over the last couple of weeks, Corinthians dropped four rather easy points, suffering a pair of draws against lowly Avai and Ceará.
With victories in those two games, Corinthians would be just three points behind leaders Flamengo but instead find themselves in fourth place on 32 points – seven back of the Rio outfit.
Despite their setbacks, striker Vagner Love still thinks that Corinthians are right in the thick of the Brasileirão title race.
“We have a chance to win the title, I really believe that. We have already been 13 points from first place and today we are just seven points behind.
“For a championship that hasn’t finished the first round yet… I believe Corinthians in the fight.”
Prior to their Copa Sudamericana semi-final clash with Independiente del Valle, Corinthians will face Fluminense at the Mané Garrincha Stadium in Brasilia this Sunday.
