Liverpool are still negotiating with Valencia over a potential deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili with the latest update providing another setback.

It's been a frustrating transfer window for Liverpool so far. The club's new sporting director, Richard Hughes, is still yet to make a transfer with now just less than two weeks left until the end of the summer transfer window.

So far Liverpool have failed to land their no.1 target for the holding midfield role in Martin Zubimendi, who opted to stay at Real Sociedad instead. Meanwhile, the club is now also stalling in negotiations with Valencia over a potential deal for Giorgi Mamardashvili with the the clock ticking to strengthen Arne Slot's squad.

Valencia provide Giorgi Mamardashvili transfer update

Mamardashvili is not viewed as a signing who would immediately bolster Arne Slot's squad. But he is very much a target for Liverpool in this summer's window.

The club are keen to find a long-term successor for Alisson Becker and have identified the Georgian shot-stopper as the ideal target with the plan being that Liverpool would subsequently loan him out to Bournemouth before bringing him to Anfield in a year or two.

It seems like a no brainer transfer especially since Liverpool's transfer valuation of £30m for Mamardashvili is not far from the £35m demanded by Valencia.

However, according to Marca, negotiations have stalled between the two sides. Valencia insists they want to accept nothing less than £35m for their prized asset, meanwhile Liverpool are unwilling to budge from their £30m valuation. This has created a rift that has put the operations in danger according to the report.

At this stage, there is an impasse between the two sides, but Liverpool will hope to avoid another transfer repeat of the Zubimendi saga, with the Reds ultimately coming out of the negotiations empty handed.
