The Vancouver Whitecaps have signed 32 year old free agent attacker Fafa Picault ahead of the 2024 MLS season. The Haitian international forward will enter his 8th MLS season with his 5th different club. In 289 career games, Picault has been able to score 65 goals and record 30 assists. He has represented the likes of the; Philadelphia Union, Houston Dynamo FC, Nashville SC, FC St. Pauli, Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Tampa Bay Rowdies, FC Dallas, and AC Sparta Prague. During his time with the Tampa Bay Rowdies, Picault won the 2012 NASL Soccer Bowl. Last season, he was able to score 9 goals and record 2 assists across multiple competitions.
Fafa comes in as a veteran depth piece to Vanni Sartini’s side in 2024. I am expecting that the Whitecaps will start Brian White and Ryan Gauld up top, but behind that, Fafa seems to be the clear next man up. With someone who was able to record 11G+A in 2023, that seems like a strong depth piece for a team that seems to be primed for a MLS Cup Playoffs spot. And remember always… when it comes to Picault… slow feet don’t eat!
