Cremonese star Franco Vazquez has received a 10-game ban for ‘racial discrimination’ in a Serie B match against Bari played in February.
The Serie B Sporting Judge has punished Vazquez with a 10-game ban for racism. Bari had accused the former Palermo and Sevilla star after a league game played in mid-February.
The incident involved Vazquez and Bari winger Emile Mehdi Dorval, who had left the pitch in tears.
The Sporting Judge announced Vazquez’s lengthy ban on Tuesday, finding him guilty of an “expressive insult of racial discrimination.”
Cremonese have already announced they’d appeal against Vazquez’s ban.
As reported by Sky Sport Italia, the Grigiorossi are confident that “in the following levels of judgment, he may be able to prove what he already stated to the collaborators of the Federal Prosecutor’s Office immediately after the match, namely his absolute non-involvement in the contested events.”
Vazquez has nine goals and three assists in 28 appearances across all competitions this season.
Cremonese sit fourth in the Serie B table, occupying a playoff placement after 29 rounds. This means that if Vazquez’s ban is confirmed in the later stages of judgment, the Argentinean striker won’t play again in the regular season and will only return to action for the play-offs.
