They will hope that the defender commits his long-term future to the club and stays for the long term. He is one of their key players and Liverpool simply cannot afford to lose him. Virgil van Dijk will be out of contract in the summer, and Liverpool cannot afford to lose two of their best defenders in one window.

The French international is one of the best defenders in the Premier League and he has the quality to succeed in La Liga as well.
