Victor Vazquez joins Toronto FC from LA Galaxy | OneFootball

Víctor Vázquez is headed back to Toronto FC.

The midfielder joins on a one-year contract with an option for 2024, after being selected by the Canadian team during the Re-Entry Draft.

The 35-year-old will now begin his second stint with TFC, after spending the last two seasons with the LA Galaxy. Though he managed five goals and 10 assists under head coach Greg Vanney, the Western Conference team decided to decline his option after the 2022 campaign.

“I am so happy to be back home,” Vázquez said in an official statement. “I cannot wait to see you all again and play in front of you on those special nights at BMO Field. We will have fun and bring the club back to the greatest, where it belongs.”

Vazquez first kicked off with Toronto in 2017, recording eight goals and 16 assists in 31 games to inspire Toronto to lift the MLS Cup and Supporters’ Shield. Overall, he managed 16 goals and 25 assists in 52 appearances.

“We are excited to have a player like Victor join the team and reinforce our midfield depth,” Toronto head coach and sporting director Bob Bradley said in a press release. “He is a talented player with a great understanding of the game, an excellent passer and brings experience and creativity to our midfield.”

In addition to MLS, Vazquez saw time at Club Brugge and K.A.S. of Belgium, Liga MX’s Cruz Azul, FC Barcelona and Qatar’s Al-Arabi Sports Club and Umm Salal.
