How do you know you’re in a long, long international break? When you’re watching Kazakhstan Premier League highlights.

Well Chelsea fans are suffering through a real record breaker here, and things are getting desperate. The Blues’ last game was a 1-0 defeat to Arsenal on the 16th of March, and with the FA Cup on this weekend and our next fixture against Spurs shifted to a Thursday night prime time slot, there are a crazy 17 days between matches.

That’s given us plenty of time to take stock and take a broader look at what’s going on, and a perfect chance to check in on one of our more interesting signings of recent times.

Back in February, Fabrizio Romano dropped an interesting transfer bomb from nowhere. Dastan Satpaev is still only 16, but the young Kazakh talent had started making appearance for Kairat Almaty, and Chelsea wasted no time in hoovering up the youngster.

He’s going to stay on loan there for the rest of their season (and perhaps beyond) but we’re still getting glimpses of him, mainly as a sub.

You can see him playing in the footage embedded here:

Satpaev looks ready for next level already despite his youth

Dastan Satpaev in action for Kazakhstan’s youth teams.

From what we can see, he’s much more of a striker than the floaty, creative type we had imagined. He runs strongly with the ball, especially considering his age. He is a hard worker and in this clip alone he successfully and willingly chases down long punts upfield with plenty of success.

There’s no denying he looks very physically and technically mature for someone of his age. Romano referred to his “special skills” and we hope to see more of that soon. We look forward to checking in on his progress more often in the future. The next step will be a European loan somewhere.
