(Video): Human after all – Cole Palmer does something historic which is so painful for fans

Something historic has just happened: Cole Palmer has missed a penalty for the first time in his senior career.
After 12 scored in a row, his streak has ended against Leicester.
It wasn’t the worst spot kick in the world – it was pretty hard and low and while not perfectly into the corner, it would have been enough to beat most keepers.
But when it’s not your day it’s not your day, and it’s not even Palmer’s year so far. Mads Hermansen in the Leicester goal made a superb stop, diving full length to his left to keep it out. Chelsea players couldn’t believe it, and were sure the Foxes stopper must have left his line. But it was all legit – just a great save from the man who we were briefly linked to in the summer.

Where do we go from here? This has just crystalised Palmer’s form from a “bad patch” to a seriously worrying period. This miss sums it all up, and the only way out of it now is for him to start scoring from open play.
Playing him from the start against Copenhagen this week was a pretty clear attempt by Enzo Maresca to get him firing again but it’s backfired. It’s the same story with the penalty today – what should have been the ideal chance to get him smiling and scoring has now had the reverse effect and really deepened his problems.
The unshakable has been shaken, and has been proved to be human after all.
