A former Sheffield United striker’s son bagged his first hat-trick for the Blades on Tuesday afternoon.

Jevan Beattie, son of Craig Beattie, was clinical in front of goal for the under-18’s against Crewe Alexandra bagging his first hat-trick for the club. The Blades were 2-1 down at half-time at Shirecliffe but managed to turn the game on its head and clinch a 6-3 victory.

After the game, the under-18’s manager Jim O’Brien told the club’s media: “A real test of character today going behind in the game and the lads responded really well. We know we need to be better in certain moments of the game but to score six goals is pleasing. I thought the subs made a real impact and we are going to need everyone to get games over the line this season. It’s important for their development that they stay hungry and push each other every day and competition for places is really healthy.”

With Beattie emerging as one of the next talents to watch, if he can keep up his form he may be introduced to the development team at some point this season. Of course, United are no stranger to producing exciting young forwards. Over the last three or four years the football club has seen Iliman Ndiaye, Will Lankshear, Daniel Jebbison and Will Osula come through the youth ranks, and all of them departed the club for green profit.
