Villarreal emerge as latest suitors for departing Atlético Madrid star | OneFootball

Villarreal have this week been credited with a keen interest in a recently-departed member of the defensive ranks at La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid.

That’s according to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, who points towards Mario Hermoso as the player in question.

Stopper Hermoso, for his part, currently finds himself as a free agent.

This comes after the 29-year-old came to the decision not to pen fresh terms, upon the expiration of his deal with the aforementioned Atlético.

A number of clubs are since understood to have expressed an interest in his signature, albeit with Hermoso himself, evidently, yet to be convinced.

As much has left the door open for new suitors to enter the fray, with the identity of one such outfit, as alluded to above, having today been revealed.

As per a report from Relevo’s Matteo Moretto:

‘The Yellow Submarine’s coach, Marcelino García, has a positive opinion of Mario Hermoso and Villarreal will try to secure his services.’

Interestingly, Villarreal’s shift of focus towards Hermoso comes with the club’s first-choice defensive target, in Clément Lenglet, inching towards none other than Atlético.

It now remains to be seen if the former is convinced by the project on offer at La Cerámica.
