After the match, Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk spoke to Canal+, and the veteran defender used one word to sum up his feelings about the result, knowing that the Reds’ Champions League season is over.

“When it goes to penalties, it’s a lottery; both goalkeepers can save penalties,” van Dijk said (h/t RMC Sport). “And Donnarumma is good in this area. We showed a different face compared to last week. Congratulations to PSG, they were very good in both matches.

“They have the quality to hurt any opponent; their attackers are very dangerous and direct. And their coach, Luis Enrique, has made them a very good team. For a neutral supporter, it was a very good match to watch. There were a lot of ups and downs. The feeling I have is disappointment.

“I’m proud of my teammates, of the reaction, of our first half. But congratulations to PSG and good luck to them. We didn’t manage to score tonight, they were very good. We were also very good, but congratulations to them and good luck for the rest of the competition.”
