Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa could drop the curtain on his four-year stay at Napoli to return to the Premier League this summer. Per Areanapoli, Manchester City and Manchester United are the leading candidates to sign the outgoing midfielder.
Zambo Anguissa’s contract at Stadio Diego Maradona runs out at the end of the season. Despite his household status at Napoli, the 29-year-old seems to have set his heart on leaving Italy after four years. He joined the Partenopei on loan from Fulham in 2021 before signing a permanent deal the following summer.
The Cameroon international helped Napoli lift the Scudetto after 33 years in his second season in Serie A. That cemented his place in the team, and nothing has changed since Antonio Conte’s arrival last summer. Indeed, Zambo Anguissa has been a first-team regular this term, though Scott McTominay’s headline-grabbing exploits diminished his influence.
McTominay’s McTominay’s meteoric rise under Conte has seen him become the preferred midfield dynamo, gradually pushing Zambo Anguissa down the pecking order. With playing time no longer guaranteed, the former Marseille ace is reportedly eager to leave Napoli, with a Premier League return firmly on the cards.
Manchester City and Manchester United are keeping a close eye on his situation. The Citizens view the wantaway Napoli star as a potential reinforcement to add steel and depth to their midfield, especially now that Kevin De Bruyne is likely to end his trophy-laden career at the Etihad Stadium.
On the other hand, the Red Devils see him as a valuable addition to bolster their engine room. Meanwhile, Napoli may sign Georgyi Sudakov as a replacement, though Juventus’ interest threatens to undermine their pursuit of the Ukrainian.
