Spirit announced the news via a post on their official club website this evening.
It has been reported that Spirit also hold the option to extend MacIver’s deal for the 2028 campaign should her services be required.
The 26-year-old Scottish international stopper moves to America off the back of a two-and-a-half-year spell with Manchester City. MacIver made 11 appearances for The Cityzens in all competitions while she provided some important back-up for the first-choice goalkeeping jersey.
The final few months of MacIver’s time at Manchester City was spent in rehabilitation. The player sustained a serious knee injury in April 2024 and she has not featured for The Cityzens since.
MacIver is now on the road to recovery and she will be looking forward to kicking on with new club Washington Spirit.
After completing her move to Washington Spirit, MacIver said “I’m looking forward to joining a world-leading club and organisation. The Spirit is an ambitious team and I’m excited to be part of it.“
MacIver’s move to Washington Spirit will see her link-up with former Manchester City teammate Esme Morgan. The defender joined Spirit last summer, ending a nine-year spell with Manchester City.
