The Terriers have had a terrible end to the 2024-25 season, and fan frustrations boiled over on Saturday
Footage has emerged of Huddersfield Town fans blasting their playing squad following a dismal last-day 4-1 defeat at home to Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers' pre-season expectations were to be challenging for automatic promotion, especially under the management of Michael Duff, who had proven to be a hit at Barnsley before his move to Swansea City that ultimately didn't work out.
And after a 16-match league unbeaten streak that lasted from October until January, the signs were positive that Town would go up with Birmingham City come the end of the season - but ever since a 1-0 defeat to Bolton Wanderers over three months ago, it has been constant misery for the West Yorkshire outfit.
Seven defeats from 11 league matches saw the end of the road for Duff in early March, with club icon Jonathan Worthington placed in interim charge until the end of the season.
Unfortunately for Town though, a 5-1 win over Crawley Town in the former midfielder's first match in charge could not be built upon, and from there on in, the Terriers lost eight of their last nine League One matches to finish in 10th position.
The season culminated in a 4-1 humiliation at home to Leyton Orient, who secured their play-off spot with a convincing win on away soil - although the plight began through Huddersfield winger Josh Koroma playing through O's attacker Jamie Donley in the second minute, which ended with Dan Agyei opening the scoring.
It never got any better for Town, and in their post-match lap of appreciation, as customary at the end of a season, video footage shows the fans that remained in their seats laying into the squad for their efforts - or perceived lack of - in recent weeks and months.
Cries of "You're not fit to wear the shirt" bellowed onto the pitch from plenty of supporters, who were seemingly dismayed at what they have witnessed in recent weeks - let alone sinking to such a defeat on the final day of the campaign.
Since taking over in March 2023 from Dean Hoyle, American businessman Kevin Nagle has made plenty of noise, but on the pitch it has only been down for Town.
You could argue that Championship relegation was sealed in the summer of 2023 when there wasn't nearly enough incomings at the John Smith's Stadium, and the decision to splash the cash in January to try and rescue the club from relegation ultimately did not pay off.
Michael Duff was definitely backed by Nagle, and even moreso in January when both Dion Charles and Joe Taylor, among other players, arrived at the club, but from late January onwards it has been nothing but a tailspin when it comes to form and results.
