Barcelona had the worst start possible to the season’s final El Clasico, as the team conceded two early goals from Kylian Mbappe.
The Frenchman netted twice in the first 15 minutes of the game, forcing Barcelona to chase a two-goal deficit from the very beginning.
However, the Catalans showed a brilliant fighting spirit, pulling one back through Eric Garcia before Lamine Yamal made it 2-2 with a mesmerising strike.
With the game poised at 1-2 and Real Madrid offering very little space inside the box, Yamal took it upon himself to equalise.
During one of Barcelona’s attacking moments, Pedri was trying to wriggle the ball through the Real Madrid defence before passing it to Ferran Torres.
The Spaniard then passed the ball to Yamal, who was waiting at the edge of the box. The young sensation then took no time in attempting a shot on goal with a curling effort that left Thibaut Courtois completely bamboozled.
Shortly after Yamal’s strike, Barcelona were able to score two more goals thanks to Raphinha, who capitalised on a quick turnover created in midfield to produce a calm finish past Courtois, almost immediately after Yamal’s strike.
The Brazilian international helped extend Barcelona’s lead late into first half, thanks to some quick interplay between the Barça players.
Barcelona are now leading the tie 4-2 as the two teams head towards the dressing room for half-time.
It will be interesting to see whether or not Yamal can maintain a similar level of consistency going into the second half.
