Real Madrid’s victory over Valencia was overshadowed by an incident involving Vinicius Jr. that left a bitter taste.

The Brazilian star, who had been at the centre of attention throughout the match, was sent off after a reckless altercation with Stole Dimitrievski, where he struck the goalkeeper in the face.

This act earned him a red card, marking a significant turning point in the game.

Following the red card, Vinicius erupted in a fit of anger. His emotions were running high, and it took the intervention of his teammates and other members of the Real Madrid staff to calm him down.

His reaction

This outburst was likely exacerbated by the abuse he had been receiving from some sections of the Valencia fans throughout the match.

The hostile atmosphere and constant taunting clearly affected Vinicius, who found himself at the heart of the ongoing tension.

Footage released by DAZN revealed that Vinicius responded to chants from the crowd, including derogatory calls of “fool, fool”, with a defiant gesture.

The Brazilian raised his hand and made a motion pointing to the number two, symbolising Valencia’s precarious position in the league, close to relegation to the second division.

This gesture seemed to be a calculated response to the insults he had been enduring, reminding the fans of their team’s current standing.

There is a history

Interestingly, this was not the first time Vinicius had used such a gesture. A similar action was seen in his previous match against Rayo Vallecano, indicating a recurring response when provoked by rival fans.

However, the controversy did not stop there. After the match, Vinicius took to social media, posting a message accompanied by an emoji of a hand with the number two, reinforcing the gesture made during the game.

Vinicius’ actions on and off the pitch have sparked heated discussions. While many understand the frustration that comes with being targeted by hostile crowds, others feel that his behaviour only adds fuel to the fire.
