Watford are moving quickly to prepare for life in the Premier League next term.
The Hornets were only relegated last term but have battled hard in order to secure automatic promotion back to the top flight this term, meaning that they’ll once again be able to consider themselves as one of England’s top 20 elite sides.
With that in mind the focus is on strengthening the squad and ensuring that they can avoid the drop again next term.
According to reports from The Sun, Watford are in talks over a bargain move for Rafael Borre.
The 25-year-old striker looks set to be available on a free transfer after coming to the end of his contract with River Plate.
Borre moved to the Argentine side in 2017 and has a pretty impressive scoring record after netting 53 goals in 141 appearances for the club.
A player who can play as a striker or from the left flank, the Colombian international will be available for nothing this summer – a potential bargain given his Transfermarkt valuation of £13.5million.
One key aspect of the deal could be Carlos Sanchez.
The Watford midfielder is an international teammate of Rafael Borre and so could potentially be hugely influential the hunt to see off the opposition for his signature.
The verdict
What a signing this could be for Watford.
Rafael Borre has real pedigree after being a massive success for River Plate and given his technical attributes, there’s no doubt that he could be a handful for defenders.
There’s bound to be competition for his signature and so the Hornets will need to put quite a proposal together to get this done.
