Eintracht Frankfurt executive Axel Hellmann has heaped praise on Omar Marmoush’s handling of his exit from the German club before joining Manchester City in January.
Marmoush was one of four City signings in January as part of a £181.5 million outlay to alleviate Pep Guardiola’s injury concerns and instil some freshness in a depleted, ageing squad that will undergo further surgery at the end of the season.
With 20 goals and 14 assists in 26 appearances across all competitions for Eintracht Frankfurt in the first-half of the season, Manchester City secured the arrival of one of Europe’s most in-form forwards to take some pressure off Erling Haaland.
The Egyptian netted the first hat-trick of his career in Manchester City’s 4-0 thumping of Newcastle United last month, having impressed on his debut in a 3-1 win over Chelsea with his pace, runs in behind the opposition defence, and general attacking play.
Omar Marmoush has been thrown into Manchester City’s attacking mix by Pep Guardiola and has already started against the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Real Madrid and Liverpool since his £59 million transfer.
Reflecting on an emotional exit for Marmoush from Eintracht Frankfurt, board member at the German club, Axel Hellmann said, “We all have tears in our eyes,” addressing a club general assembly in February, as quoted by Get Football News Germany.
“A player hungry for more opportunities is valuable to us. Not only if he stays, but also if he leaves the club on good terms. There are plenty of examples of how we bid a positive farewell to players. This is unique (to us).
“Other players are motivated to come to us because they see that something like this can work without complications. (Our recruitment) leaves us with an outstanding team that can play outstandingly good football.”
Omar Marmoush has all the makings to become a key Manchester City star in years to come and the manner in which he handled what is a typically tricky mid-season departure from any club, especially given the endearment shared by the 26-year-old and Frankfurt supporters.
