Manchester City fans have been sent into a frenzied panic on social media following Kyle Walker’s latest admission ahead of the new season.

The 34-year-old has returned to the Etihad Stadium off the back of a successful tournament with England at the European Championships, with his performances playing a role in Gareth Southgate’s side reaching the final of the competition against Spain.

With his holidays extended deeper into the summer, Walker was excluded from Manchester City’s pre-season tour of the United States, but has now returned to the City Football Academy ahead of the new competitive season.

As part of those preparations, the Manchester City captain has been eyeing individual ambitions and goals for the new campaign, one of which is focussed on the goalscoring department despite being a traditional right-back.

Speaking during the latest edition of his podcast released on BBC Sounds ‘You’ll Never Beat Kyle Walker‘, the Manchester City captain spoke of his ambition to improve his goalscoring form for the club during the 2024/25 campaign.

“I’m really going to try this season to get a few more goals, because I think I get in good areas,” Walker told co-host Chris Huges. “I need to start adding that to my game, you know, I’m 34-years-old now,” he continued.

Such was the confidence in being able to score a goal for Manchester City this season, Walker also promised to take Hughes out for lunch the following day after striking for Pep Guardiola’s side.

A goal would represent a significant uplift from Kyle Walker’s output last season, having provided zero goals of his own but complimented by five assists across all competitions in 47 appearances.

The ongoing summer transfer window has also come with some lingering doubts over the full-back’s future, with the understanding being in various quarters that his services were admired by officials in Saudi Arabia.

Since such tenuous claims, little has progressed, and Kyle Walker is now expected to remain in Manchester beyond the ongoing summer transfer window and into the brand new campaign, whilst potentially retaining his status as club captain.
